Terms of Service

Last updated 30 October 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and Motilo, Auckland, New Zealand ("we", "us"). By using Motilo you agree to them. If you use Motilo for an organisation, you agree on its behalf and confirm you may do so.

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data and is part of these terms.

1. What we provide

Motilo turns infographics, slides and screenshots into animated videos. You upload an image, our AI reads its content, you choose and adjust a template, and we render an MP4 for you to download. Previews in your browser are free; exports are paid from your balance, apart from any free exports we offer.

We keep improving Motilo, so features, templates and limits may change. Some features (such as explainer videos) are only available to accounts we invite, and may come with separate terms.

2. Your account

  • You can try Motilo without an account; exporting and buying credit need one with a verified email.
  • You must be at least 16 years old. To buy credit you must be old enough to make a binding contract where you live, or have a parent's or guardian's permission.
  • Keep access to your email account safe: anyone who can open your sign-in links can use your account and balance. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has used it.
  • One person per account. Don't share accounts or create several to get around free limits.

3. Balance, prices and payment

  • You pay for exports from a prepaid balance shown in US dollars. You top it up through our payment providers, Lemon Squeezy or Stripe; the checkout page shows which one applies. When you pay through Lemon Squeezy, it is the merchant of record: it sells you the top-up, takes your payment, handles the tax and issues your receipt, and its Buyer Terms (lemonsqueezy.com/buyer-terms) also apply to that purchase. We never see or store your card or payment account details.
  • Sales tax (VAT/GST) is added at checkout where it applies. Businesses can enter a VAT/GST number to apply the reverse charge where the law allows it.
  • Larger top-ups may include bonus credit. Bonus credit is used like normal credit.
  • Your balance never expires. It can only be used for Motilo exports, has no cash value and can't be transferred or sold.
  • A top-up is the digital product you buy: the credit is supplied to your balance immediately at checkout. At checkout you ask for immediate delivery and acknowledge that you lose the 14-day right to cancel that consumers have in some countries (such as the EU and UK) once the credit is added or used.
  • Top-ups are non-refundable once any of the credit has been used for an export. If you are a consumer in the EU or UK and have not made a paid export since a top-up, you may ask for a full refund of that top-up within 14 days of buying it, through our contact page or by email.
  • Lemon Squeezy may also refund a top-up at its own discretion, for example to prevent a chargeback. When a top-up is refunded in full or in part, by us or by a payment provider, we remove the matching share of its credit from your balance, including any bonus credit. This can take your balance below zero.
  • The price of each export is shown before you confirm it and depends on the video's length at the normal pace. We may change prices for future exports; this never changes your balance or exports you have already paid for.
  • If an export fails, we automatically return its price to your balance.
  • Exporting exactly the same video again (same content and settings as a video you paid for) is free at any time, also after the file has been deleted, subject to fair-use daily limits shown in the app. Any change to text, colours, fonts, pace, template or format is a new video and is charged again, so please use the review step to check your text before you export.
  • If you dispute a payment after spending the credit, we may deduct the disputed amount plus any payment processor dispute fee we are charged from your balance, and pause exports or suspend your account until the negative balance is settled.
  • Organisations can ask us about paying by invoice; we then add the credit to their balance manually.

4. Previews, free exports and watermarks

Previews show a "preview" watermark across the video. Free exports carry a small "Made with Motilo" mark in a corner. Paid exports have no watermark. Don't remove, cover or crop our watermark from previews or free exports, or try to get around it in other ways.

5. Your content

  • You keep all rights to what you upload (images, documents, text, logos) and to the text in your videos.
  • You give us permission to process your content only as needed to run Motilo for you: reading it with AI, showing previews, rendering and storing your videos for the times in our Privacy Policy. We don't use your content to advertise Motilo without asking you first.
  • You confirm you have the right to use everything you upload, and that using it with Motilo doesn't break anyone else's rights (such as copyright, trademarks or confidentiality).
  • Please don't upload other people's personal data unless you are allowed to, and never sensitive data such as health records, ID numbers or passwords. Motilo is made for presentation content, not for records about people.
  • If you use Motilo for business purposes, or if you breach these terms, you agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, losses, damages or legal costs (including reasonable legal fees) brought by a third party arising out of your content, your published videos or your breach of these terms.

6. Your videos

The videos you export are yours to use for any lawful purpose, including commercial use: post them, present them, put them in courses or ads. The templates, animations, backgrounds, icons and software behind them stay ours (or our licensors'). You may not copy or rebuild our templates, or offer Motilo videos as templates for others to fill in. You may only use our backgrounds, icons, fonts, characters and voiceovers as part of an exported video, and never extract them or use them as standalone files.

We delete exported videos 7 days after they are made, so download them. Your project stays in your account until you delete it, so you can export it again later.

7. AI and your responsibility for the result

Motilo uses AI to read your images and documents and, if you choose, to tidy or rewrite text. AI can make mistakes: it may misread a number, shorten a sentence or miss an item. Always check the text before you export (the review step shows all of it in one list). You are responsible for the videos you publish and for making sure their content is accurate and lawful.

Where a feature uses AI-generated voiceovers or presenters, you must not use it to impersonate any real person without their consent, or to mislead viewers into believing an AI voice or presenter is a specific real person.

8. Acceptable use

Don't use Motilo to:

  • make content that is illegal, misleading, defamatory, hateful, sexual, or that harasses anyone;
  • infringe anyone's copyright, trademark, privacy or other rights;
  • get around limits, watermarks, payments or security checks, or use bots and scripts against the site;
  • copy, reverse engineer, scrape or resell the service, or use it to build a competing product;
  • overload, attack or interfere with the service or other users.

9. Ending the agreement

You can stop using Motilo at any time. To close your account and delete its data, write to us through the contact page or email [email protected].

We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, or where the law requires it. If we close your account without you breaking these terms (for example because we stop offering Motilo), we will refund your unspent paid balance. If we suspend or close your account because you breached these terms (including section 8 "Acceptable use" or chargeback abuse), any remaining balance (including paid and bonus credit) is forfeited immediately and will not be refunded, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

10. Our responsibility

We work hard to keep Motilo running and your videos correct, but we provide it "as is" and can't promise it will always be available or free of errors. Motilo relies on outside providers (such as AI, voice, payment and hosting services), and we are not responsible for downtime or failures caused by them.

As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect or consequential losses (such as lost profits, lost business or reputational harm), and our total responsibility to you for any claim is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) USD $50.

Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have as a consumer that can't be excluded by law. If you acquire or use Motilo in trade or for business purposes, we both agree to contract out of the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and sections 9, 12A and 13 of the Fair Trading Act 1986, and that doing so is fair and reasonable.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as Motilo changes. We will tell you about important changes by email or on the site before they take effect. If you keep using Motilo after that, the new terms apply. Changes never reduce balance you have already bought.

12. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand, and its courts have exclusive jurisdiction to hear disputes about them. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in, and can bring claims there. Please contact us first: most problems are solved quickly by email.

13. Contact
